"The listener wakes up in a jungle and drums from far announce a great coming. As he proceeds, following the sounds, his spirit is taken to the place of a dark ritual. So far for the story I could imagine. The Black Area is big, many styles collide in a harmonical way. From the sounds of the orient and the mystique to break beats like in 'Smooth'. 'Malaria' shows an even darker side of ambient and break beats, then it turns to 'The African Architect' - simply said a cool thing. This track can rock the floor! Sometimes this album reminds me a bit of the Matrix soundtracks. 'Home' is the perfect last track every album should provide. Very atmospheric, pounding and cool!"

Bisher schaut das kleine, noch im Aufbau befindende, Label Mescalinum Music Research auf die veröffentlichten Eigenproduktionen, wie die der Projekte: Martyr Droid, The Psy, x909 und Doom, welche sich musikalisch zwischen Dark Ambient, Industrial, Electro und EBM bewegen. Das neun Titel starke Album "A Trip To The Black Area" von (the obscure) Rhythm Trip, alias Matt Sick trägt als Hauptthema den afrikanischen Kontinent und wird durch typische Elemente, wie die Bongos und Congas getragen. Darüber hinaus erfüllen die Titel auch eine visuelle Funktion. Wie der Künstler hinter dem Projekt selbst über seine Musik sagt, so gab es keinerlei Vorgaben oder besondere Inspirationen, die zur Entstehung des Sounds beigetragen haben. Lediglich eingängige und teilweise tanzbare Musik sollte am Ende dabei herausspringen. Gelungen ist es ihm, dass der Hörer sich in warme Ambient-Sounds fallen lassen kann, ohne das die eingebrachte Leidenschaft für Rhythmus und Beats darin unter geht.

Für einzelne Titel hat sich Matt Sick die Mühe gemacht u.a. eigene Gitarrensamples oder Basslinien einzuspielen, damit "A Trip To The Black Area" nicht ausschließlich nach einfacher Computer gemacht Musik anhört. Titel wie "Exploration" und "Smooth" weisen Kreativität und Experimentierfreude auf, während "Malaria" eher für die dunklen Klänge steht. "The African Architect", besticht durch rhythmische Beweglichkeit, wobei "Kath" wieder den Bezug zum Albumtitel und zu den Tracks am Anfang herstellt. Die Reihenfolge der Titel ist harmonisch aufeinander abgestimmt, wie ein Roter Faden, der durch die audiovisuelle Reise führt. Mit "Home" wird dieses Album dann schließlich abgerundet und ebnet gleichzeitig den Weg für ein anschließendes, neues Werk. Es bleibt also offen, wie die Entwicklung des jungen Labels und der darauf vertretenen Künstler weitergeht."
